Nigerian chess champion and education advocate Tunde Onakoya has achieved something amazing. He played chess continuously for 60 hours straight in New York City’s Times Square. Tunde was aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, which was previously 56 hours.
During this intense game, Tunde played against American chess champion Shawn Martinez. They followed strict rules, taking only short breaks every hour. The goal wasn’t just to set a record but also to raise $1 million for children’s education across Africa.
Tunde’s effort received huge support, with people cheering him on and celebrities like Davido showing up. Within the first 24 hours, they raised $22,000. This is important because millions of children in Nigeria and across Africa don’t have access to education.
Tunde’s record attempt has inspired many, showing that with dedication and support, big goals can be achieved even from humble beginnings. Now, everyone waits for the Guinness World Record to confirm Tunde’s incredible achievement.
